Keonjhar: The district headquarters hospital here found itself in a spot Monday after the husband of a woman lodged a complaint against a gynaecologist for conducting a ‘tubectomy’ on his wife without the consent of the family. The complaint was lodged at the Town police station here. The woman’s husband has demanded stringent action against the ‘erring’ doctor.
IIC Sunil Kar confirmed that he has received the complaint and said an investigation has been launched. Sources said that Pabitrarani, wife of Susant Barik of Khendra village under Jhumpura block in this district was admitted to the hospital for delivery Sunday morning after she experienced labour pain. The woman was administered treatment and delivered a baby boy at 7.40 pm Sunday after the gynaecologist conducted a caesarean on her.
However, Susant was in for a shock when the doctor identified as Abhijit Mohapatra informed him that ‘tubectomy’ has been conducted on his wife and asked him to sign a form as his consent. It meant that Pabitrarani would not be able to conceive again. A stunned Susant refused to sign on the dotted lines. The doctor then abused him when he refused to comply with the order. Susant has alleged in the FIR that the doctor made his wife sign the form by misguiding her. He also stated that he was not informed about the ‘tubectomy’. Dr Mohapatra expressed surprise at the turn of events. He asserted that he had taken permission from both.
