Balasore: Police and scientific team Sunday seized two empty bullet shells from the place where dreaded gangster Sheikh Hyder was injured in police encounter Saturday.
As a part of the investigation into the encounter, Balasore SDPO Sriharsh Mishra, additional DCP Pramod Rath along with police and scientific teams visited the encounter spot near Simulia in Balasore district Sunday and recovered two bullet shells.
Meanwhile, the area where the encounter took place has been declared as ‘restricted zone’, it was learnt.
According to a source, the postmortem is being carried out at Balasore district headquarters hospital where the gangster’s family members including his wife, son, daughter-in-law and daughter have reached.
Notably, the gangster was being shifted in a police vehicle from Choudwar Jail in Cuttack to Baripada Jail amid tight security. At about 3:20pm, when the vehicle was nearing Simulia, the gangster asked the cops to stop the vehicle so that he could relieve himself.
After the vehicle pulled up, in a bid to escape, the gangster tried to snatch the service gun from a cop. In order to prevent his escape, a sub-inspector opened fire at him. Hyder sustained bullet injuries in his abdomen and hand. He was rushed to Balasore district headquarters hospital where he succumbed.
