Born in June 1988, Neha Kakkar is an Indian singer, who came to limelight on Season 2 of television reality show Indian Idol in 2006. She became the judge on the tenth season of the same show. She had also judged a singing reality show on Zee TV named Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Lil Champs. She launched her first album Neha-The Rock Star in 2008. The most followed Indian artiste in Instagram and Youtube was in the city to perform in a concert organised by Imperial Blue. She threw light on her forte and future plans in a press meet.
How would you describe your association with Imperial Blue?
My association with Imperial Blue super hit nights has been amazing. All the concerts that we have organised have been super hit. We were highly successful in all the cities that I have performed in. I am looking forward to perform in Bhubaneswar tonight. This is my second time in the city and I’ve got to say that people here are very warm.
Describe your journey from a contestant to a judge in Indian Idol.
I would describe the journey as an achievement. One cannot imagine being the judge of a show that you’re participating in. I became the judge in a very short span of time and at a very young age which makes me immensely proud.
What kind of a reception do you expect from your fans in Bhubaneswar?
I am quite sure that my fans in the city would dance to my songs. My songs are well loved across the world. I would like to think that I spread happiness among my fans. I got to know that the event would witness a huge footfall. I am quite excited and would give my very best to make this night a memorable one for the fans.
You have worked in songs of various genres. How do you maintain standards across these genres?
I am an emotional person. If I am singing an emotional song, I try to feel the emotions involved in the song. On the other hand, if I am singing a rock song, I try to enjoy it to the fullest. This helps to maintain standards.
Some of your siblings are singers too. Do you draw inspiration from them?
Both Sonu Kakkar and Tony Kakkar are amazing artistes. Of course I draw a lot of inspiration from them.
You have tried some dance steps in your music videos. Would you pursue dancing in your career?
I am quite fond of dancing. My fans tell me that I am a good dancer. I forget everything and just enjoy whenever I dance. So, dancing and singing would continue simultaneously in my career.
Have you reached the saturation point in terms of success?
Dreams and ambitions of an individual never die. We make new dreams as we grow up. I am quite thankful for everything that I have got till now. Even if I don’t succeed in the future, I would be quite content.
You were nominated for the best female vocalist of the year in 2017. Were you disappointed by not winning it?
I was not disappointed at all. Personally, I don’t believe in these awards. It’s better if I keep my opinions to myself regarding this. I am the most followed Indian artiste on Instagram and YouTube. This shows that I am one of the most loved artistes of the country.
What are your upcoming projects?
I am working on a lot of projects right now. I feel fortunate to have so many opportunities.
Would you ever sing an Odia song?
Songs are made in every language. It all depends on the genre and content of the song. I would surely work on an Odia song if a good opportunity comes.
