Bhubaneswar, July 6: Popular ‘item girl’ and self-confessed queen of controversies
Rakhi Sawant was in the city for the shooting of an item number in an Oriya movie titled ‘Godfather’. Orissa POST sits down with her for a breezy chat. Excerpts from an interview with Monalisa Patsani:

You took the political plunge last year and even formed a political party of your own to compete in the 2014 general elections. Are you still serious about politics or was it a publicity stunt?
I am far too young to be in politics. I don’t want to be in politics. I just wanted to try my luck, which is why competed in the 2014 elections. It was a sort of break from my regular schedule. I wanted to take a chance as I did not want to regret not doing so in the future. But what I got to know from participating in the election was the realisation that politics is a very dirty game. It is not good for women. Politicians do not bother about harming your image or reputation.

You are a very talented dancer, but why is it that you are in the limelight only for controversies and not for your performances?
Well, wherever I go, controversies follow. You can say I’m a controversy queen and I love to be called that. I don’t care what people think about me. I believe in work and I have been working sincerely. It does not matter whether people appreciate my work or not but I know I’m doing a great job. I only care about myself.

You are doing an item number in an Oriya movie for the first time. How is the experience?
I was getting offers from the last three years to do item numbers in Oriya movies but I was unable to give any time because of my busy schedule. This is my first Oriya item number in the Oriya movie ‘Godfather’. I have been doing item numbers in many regional language movies and I am happy that now fans in Orissa can watch me performing a number in their language.

Do you think your item number will help the movie do well?
By the grace of god, in whichever movie I did an item number, it has become a hit movie. Yes, I’m confident that people will come to watch the movie just to have a glimpse me. Everybody loves Rakhi (laughs).

Is this your first time in Orissa?
I have been to Orissa earlier. I visited Puri to pray at the Jaggannath temple. I loved the place as it is a much more peaceful place than Mumbai. If I get more offers, I would definitely come down again and would love to work here.

Tying the knot anytime soon?
I’m not thinking of marriage right now. When I decide to get married, everybody will know.
