Koraput, Sept 7: Villagers of Dumusil under Narayanpatna block in the district who were shortlisted for houses under the Indira Awas Yojana (IAY) alleged that each of them is being asked for Rs 10,000 bribe to get the work orders under the housing scheme.
Members of 42 families of the village met district collector V Jay Kumar alleging that the panchayat executive officer in connivance with a few political leaders are involved in fleecing people. They submitted a written complaint to the collector.
The complaint mentioned that over 500 families reside in the village but only rich get houses under the IAY. Though villagers from poor economic background get selected in the gram sabha and palli sabha, some people with vested interest reject their names as they fail to pay the bribe.
However, a number of well-to-do families have got at least three houses under the scheme, the complaint said.
The complaint further said heads of 37 families, who were the sole bread earners, died. These families have nobody to raise their voice for them.
They urged the collector to intervene into the matter and ensure that they get houses under the Central housing scheme.
