England win their maiden World Cup
London: Super Over was tied and England were declared winners by virtue of hitting more boundaries. Compared to New Zealand’s 14 boundaries, England had 22 hits to the fences. However, the Super Over (in which both teams scored 15 runs) also ended in a tie and hence the calculation of boundaries decided the winners.

London: The World Cup final between New Zealand and England went into the Super Over after both teams ended with same score of 241 in the 2019 ICC World Cup final here at Lord’s. All-rounder Ben Stokes remained unbeaten on 84.

Stokes, Buttler lead England fightback
London: Ben Stokes (43 batting) and Jos Buttler (38 batting) continued England’s fight with a stirring fifth wicket stand of 84 runs. England at the end of 40 overs were 170 for four still needing another 72 runs in 60 balls. However, the way Stokes and Buttler are batting and if they continue to do so for another five overs England will certainly be on top.
Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler reignite English hopes
London: Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler took the responsibility of building the innings after England lost skipper Eoin Morgan (7) with only 86 runs on the board. Stokes (29 batting) and Buttler (23 batting) have so far added 51 runs for the fifth wicket as England reached 137 for four at the end of 34 overs. The two have suddenly reignited England’s hopes of a maiden World Cup win.
England lose Root, Bairstow as Kiwi bowlers stifle the flow of runs
London: New Zealand got the crucial wicket of Joe Root (7) and Jonny Bairstow (36) as England struggled to keep the flow of runs going in the World Cup final at Lord’s here Sunday. Root was dimissed by Colin de Grandhomme with wicket-keeper Tom Latham gobbling up the catch offered while Bairstow was cleaned up by Lockie Ferguson. England were 73 for three at the end of 20 overs still needing another 169 runs in 30 overs. It is certainly doable, but then the pitch is offering some help to the bowlers and New Zealand are taking full advantage of it. Now it is up to England skipper Eoin Morgan (8 batting) to take them home.
Kiwis get the dangerous Roy
London: Kiwi pacer Mark Henry struck an important blow dismissing England opener Jason Roy (17) as the hosts began their attempt of winning the 50 overs World cup for the first time. Chasing a victory target of 242, England were 39 for one. Roy was caught by wicket-keeper Tom Latham off Henry. Jonny Bairstow (18 batting) and Joe Root (2 batting) were at the crease.
NZ set 242 as target for hosts
London: New Zealand were restricted to 241 for eight at the end of the allotted 50 overs in the 2019 ICC World Cup final here at Lord’s. Henry Nocholls top-scored for the Kiwis with 55 while Chris Woakes and Liam Plunkett snared three wickets apiece for England.

England pacers turn up the heat
London: England pacers Chris Woakes and Jofra Archer have been in superb form after restricting New Zealand to 33/1 at the end of 10 overs.
Kiwis opener Martin Guptill (19r, 18b 2×4 1×6) who appeared to be in good form fell prey to an excellent delivery from Woakes before being given LBW by the umpire.

London: The wait is over as England and New Zealand face each other for the biggest game of the year in the 2019 ICC World Cup final here at Lord’s.
New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson won the toss and opted to bat first.
“Tough decision. A bat-first surface, but the overhead conditions do make it 50-50. It was a really good game of cricket [against India] and great to get across the line. But, this is a tough surface and tough opposition. I always back Martin with the bat and we know how good he can be. Any experiences you have you can learn from. It will be incredibly special,” said Williamson.
“With the overhead, toss is 50-50. Not at all (are you disappointed at losing the toss?). Jonny (Bairstow) is fully fit, which is great news for us. I’m extremely proud and everyone in the change room is. We want to win and throughout the tournament we have played tough games and the semi-final epitomised that,” said England captain Eoin Morgan.
Both teams have gone with the same squads as in the semifinals.
