Hindi movies are incomplete without a super villain and in Hindi cinema we have many great villains from 1960’s to 2000. Before 2000 role of villains used to be played by popular Hindi Film villains, who always do negative roles in films like Amrish Puri, Pran Sahab, Paresh Rawal Shakti Kapoor and Gulshan Grover.
Here’s a list of some of the iconic villain roles that will remain forever:-
Gabbar Singh, Sholay:
This iconic character was played by Amjad Khan. And we are sure that no one could have done a better job with it. You’ll be surprised to know that the first choice for this role was Danny who didn’t have dates to shoot the film. Thus, Amjad was selected. It turned out to be the best decision ever because Sholay wouldn’t have been the same without Gabbar in it.
Mogambo, Mr India
Believe it or not, one of the reasons Mr. India is still stuck in our heads is because of Mogambo, played by Amrish Puri. Mogambo was completely over the top with a strange costume, a stick and a throne surrounded by his loyalists. He became the very definition of evil. Mogambao was so bad that it made Mr. India (played by Anil Kapoor) a better hero!
Kancha, Agneepath
With aviators and gelled hair, Danny Denzongpa completely nailed this role. He plays the character of a self-proclaimed under-world don who takes over a village called Mandwa. Although people remember this movie more for Amitabh’s name in it – Vijay Dinanath Chauhan – it’s Kancha you remember hatefully.
Agneepath was remade by Dharma productions in 2012 staring Hrithik Roshan as Vijay and Sanjay Dutt as Kancha. Of course, it would be unfair to compare Danny and Dutt, but the latter wasn’t disappointing either.
