Chandbali, August 23: In a bid to boost industrialisation in Chandbali area of Bhadrak, the Orissa Industrial Development Corporation (Idco) has formed a land bank in the area after identifying 528 acres in three revenue circles – Dhamra, Kaithakhola and Karanjamal under this tehsil.
Companies keen to set up their industrial units will be handed over land as per their requirement from the land bank. The land identified for the purpose during a survey belongs to categories like barren land, pastureland, sand-cast and gramya jungle.
The land bank constitutes 100 acres in Jhadakata mouza, 60 acres in Paikasahi mouza, 18 acres in Balabhadra mouza, 15 acres in Desinga and 20 acres in Laxmiprasad. The IDCO has also acquired 103 acres in Oramal, 12 acres in Jagannathprasad mouza and 200 acres in Karanjamal circle.
Sources said the IDCO authorities will annex more land to the land bank in the subsequent phases. An official of the revenue department stated that the categories of the land need to be converted before the land is allocated to industrial units.
He also said that many pieces of land are still not free from encroachments. People have made prawn gheries at some places while betel has been cultivated at other places.
Recently, the revenue and wildlife division authorities had a tough task removing prawn gheries in Narendrapur area of Karanjamal.
The High Court had ordered removal of encroachments while the Prime Minister’s Office had directly asked the district administration to make the land free of encroachments.
Meanwhile, land sharks are grabbing land in the area amid allegations that some brokers from outside are acquiring land for a private company at Dhamra. In some cases, an acre of land is being sold for Rs 12 lakh.
