IIC transferred for clicking selfie with murder accused

Puri: Clicking a selfie with a murder accused has proven to be a costly affair for Ramchandi Police Station inspector in-charge (IIC) Bulu Munda.

As punishment, the IIC has been transferred to Puri district police headquarters. Besides, Puri superintendent of police Umashankar Dash has taken the incident seriously and said he has already reported it to the police headquarters for disciplinary action.

Munda had clicked the picture with Radha Mohan Biswal alias Muna, who is an accused in a murder case. They both were inside a police vehicle when the latter was being taken to a court in Nimapara after his arrest Monday.

The photograph is already drawing sharp reactions from the public who claim this this to be a highlight of police-criminal nexus.

Police sources said, Muna and his accomplices had attacked Sadhu Swain, his son Dillip and his friend Bipin Muduli of Athatira village at Aalasahi square October 5 over past enmity. In this attack, Dillip died and two others were injured seriously.

Local residents had staged road blockade twice demanding immediate arrest of the accused. The SP had formed four teams comprising of Astarang, Kakatpur, Ramchandi and Chandrabhaga marine police. The team had since been conducting raids.

Astarang IIC Sarat Kumar Nayak Monday informed the press that Muna had been arrested. Several people here suggest that Muna surrendered at the behest of Ramchandi IIC Bulu Munda.

That said, Astarang police station IIC Nayak refuted the speculation. When asked why Ramchandi IIC was escorting Muna who was arrested by Astarang police, Nayak said the said IIC was part of the team formed by the SP. So he was escorting Muna to Nimapara court.

SP Dash says, “Clicking selfie with a murder-accused is a sensitive incident. It has been taken seriously. I have seen the selfie. Investigation into the incident has already been ordered. Stringent action would be taken if a criminal-police connection surfaces.”

Despite several attempts, IIC Munda could not be contacted over his mobile phone for his reaction.
