Bhubaneswar: The Commissioner of Police Sudhanshu Sarangi, Sunday, directed the Inspectors- In- Charge (IICs) of all the police stations in the city to earmark specific time period on Sundays in order to address the problems faced by the senior citizens of their respective areas.
Sarangi who was speaking at an interactive event between the senior citizens and Commissionerate Police asked the IICs to meet the elderly persons or their representatives between 4 to 5 pm every Sunday afternoon. The officials of the Commissionerate police have been instructed to visit houses of the elderly citizens regularly.
He also urged the senior citizens to register their names with the ‘Sahayata’ mobile application and to use the SOS, an emergency feature that helps you to dial emergency numbers (112,108 etc) and send out SOS messages quickly and more conveniently in time of distress.
The senior citizens, especially those who live alone, were also advised to verify the antecedents of the domestic helps or maids with the nearest police stations
before appointing them at their homes.
The Commissionerate Police requested the senior citizens to install CCTV cameras at their houses to thwart any criminal activities.
A mega health camp for the senior citizens was organised by the cops. Around 950 senior citizens participated in the meeting.
Notably, October 1 is observed as International Day for Older Persons.
