IIT Bhub shifts permanently to Argul campus

It gives us a great sense of achievement that IIT Bhubaneswar could travel from a non-habitable place to an inspiring campus within a short period of three years. It marks the beginning of a new era for IIT Bhubaneswar.

Bhubaneswar: IIT Bhubaneswar Central Administration was shifted from Toshali Bhawan here to the permanent campus at Argul Jatni on the auspicious day of Rath Yatra, Saturday.

This marks an important milestone in IIT Bhubaneswar history as both academic and administrative operations have now become fully functional at the institute’s permanent campus.

The institute had partially shifted to the Argul campus July 18, 2015 in a record time of three months of preparedness after a decision was taken. Since then the campus has been developed in a salubrious environment.

Speaking on the occasion, Director Prof RV Raja Kumar said, “It gives us a great sense of achievement that IIT Bhubaneswar could travel from a non-habitable place to an inspiring campus within a short period of three years. It marks the beginning of a new era for IIT Bhubaneswar.”

Raja Kumar thanked MHRD for granting adequate funds to the tune of Rs. 850 crore for Phase-2 development and for its support towards making the institute self-sufficient. He also thanked the state government for its overall support to the institute.

The institute’s facilities include state-of-the-art hostels, a lecture hall complex, new schools, staff and faculty quarters, a central research facility and a 1500-seat auditorium.

The director said he was optimistic that IIT Bhubaneswar would attain world class stature in near future. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has agreed to visit the institute and dedicate it to the nation soon.
