According to the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) ranking, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bhubaneswar under the leadership of R. V. Rajakumar, Director, IIT Bhubaneswar (BBS) has been ranked ‘17’ among all the engineering institutes of the country.

The Institute is also ranked ‘46’ among all institutions of country under the overall category. Last year, the Institute was ranked at ‘18’ in engineering and ‘51’ in the overall category. The rankings have been released by the President of India Ram Nath Kovind in the presence of dignitaries at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi.

On this achievement, R. V. Rajakumar, Director, IIT Bhubaneswar, said, “It is satisfying to note that we have marginally improved from last year both in Engineering and University rankings ahead of many Institutions. We are working on multiple fronts and priority areas such as improving quality faculty base, world class infrastructure which are though not direct parameters of ranking. But the ranking will significantly improve in the coming years.”

The Ministry launched NIRF during September 2015. This framework outlines a methodology to rank institutions across the country. The methodology draws from the overall recommendations and understanding arrived at by a Core Committee set up by Ministry, to identify the broad parameters for ranking various universities and institutions.

The parameters broadly cover ‘Teaching, Learning and Resources’, ‘Research and Professional Practices’, ‘Graduation Outcomes’, ‘Outreach and Inclusivity’, and ‘Perception’.
