Bhubaneswar, August 4: The state government is planning to rope in the faculties of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) and the National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER) to impart training to science teachers of junior and degree colleges in the state.
The government is keen to uplift the quality of science education in colleges. “Science is at the heart of everything around us. Without science, it would be impossible to think of the modern world. Science education has vast employability and research potential,” said Jayadrath Pradhan, a science teacher.
The higher education department requested the directors of the prestigious institutes in the city to impart training to science teachers of Plus II and Plus III colleges in a bid to impart quality science education.
“The two institutes have vast expertise in the field of science. We are fortunate to have them here and we should use their potential to induct quality education among students at colleges. This is why we requested these institutions in this regard,” said an official of the higher education department, adding that a memorandum of understanding is likely to be signed soon with the institutes.
