Gop: Locals have raised environmental concerns over the mushrooming of illegal brick kilns in Gop block of Puri district.
Around 50 illegal brick kilns are operating in several places as local revenue officials have turned a blind eye to the menace.
While the local are angered over the authorities’ failure to check the problem, these brick kilns are a major source of environmental pollution as they emit huge amounts of smoke and ask. The emission of carbon dioxide in such large volumes has affected the people as well as animals in the region.
According to sources, many of the brick kilns operating in the region are running without any permission from the tehsil office and pollution control board. Moreover, the government has been losing the revenue due to these illegal brick kilns.
Locals alleged that despite several complaints there has been no action against the brick kilns or their owners.
When contacted, Gop additional tehsildar said, We have not received any report on this matter. If we receive any report, we will take steps accordingly.”
