Illegal structures razed in Capital city

Bhubaneswar: The civic authorities with the help of police Wednesday removed unauthorised encroachments on a road from Kalpana Square to Badagada Canal under Badagada police limits here.

“The eviction programme was aimed at removing encroachments from Kalpana Square to Jagannath Ashram Square, Tankapani Road, but due to shortage of time the programme was suspended Wednesday,” said a source. The remaining work will be accomplished later, the source added.

The eviction was necessary for four-laning of a road from Kalpana Square to Jagannath Ashram Square, Tankapani Road. During the eviction drive two temples – a Jagannath temple and an Akahandalamani temple – one reinforced concrete (RCC) house, 20 asbestos-cement shed shops, 36 bamboo/polythene shops, 16 cabins and seven hoardings were demolished.

Three excavators, one each from BDA, BMC and R&B, were engaged during eviction drive.

Enforcement officer-II, BDA, Pramod Kumar Patro, liaison officer, BDA Subhransu Sekhar Mohanty, SI, Badagada police station Sarita Sathpathy, a platoon of APR Force and a section of lady police were present at the site to maintain law & order during the eviction drive.

Two excavators from BDA were engaged in the eviction drive.
