Bhubaneswar: India Meteorological Department (IMD) Friday said heavy rainfall will continue in many parts of the state for the next three days under the impact of a cyclonic circulation over Bay of Bengal.
The cyclonic circulation formed over west-central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal off Odisha coast lies over northwest Bay of Bengal off Odisha West Bengal coasts and is seen between 1.5 and 4.5 km above mean sea level. Under its influence, a low pressure area is likely to form over Odisha and the neighbourhood during next 36 hours, the IMD said.
This is the third instance of low pressure area triggering downpour in the state in August.
Several areas of south and west Odisha had encountered flash floods owing to incessant rainfall earlier this month.
In the past two days, too, several parts of the state have experienced rainfall of varied intensity.
Vehicular traffic was disrupted in Bhubaneswar Friday as rain lashed Nayapalli, Jaydev Vihar, Acharya Vihar, Baramunda, GGP Colony, Jharpara and Palasuni areas here.
The Met department has issued yellow warning (be prepared) for Sundargarh and Keonjhar districts, which will receive heavy downpour Saturday. Heavy rainfall is also likely to occur in Mayurbhanj, Jharsuguda, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Rayagada, Sonepur, Boudh, Bolangir, Angul, Kalahandi and Koraput during the next 24 hours, it said.
Heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places over the districts of Sundergarh, Keonjhar, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Balangir and Nuapada, Sunday. As per the IMD report, heavy rainfall is also likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Bargarh and Nuapada next Monday.
Keeping the IMD prediction in view, the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Bishnupada Sethi has asked concern district Collectors to be ready to meet any possible situation that may arise in the event of intense rainfall.
