IMD predicts heavy rainfall from June 26

Bhubaneswar: An intense spell of rain with thundershower is likely to occur across the state from June 26 due to an active monsoon, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said Monday. The state government has put all district Collectors and Municipal Commissioners on alert in view of the IMD prediction. Director of Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre Manorama Mohanty said that heavy to very heavy rain is likely over several parts of the state from June 26 to 28. Similarly, rainfall of varied intensity will take place in most parts of the state in the next five days, she said.

A cyclonic circulation is likely to form in the region around June 26 and the intensity of rain may increase under its impact, she added. Light to moderate rain/thundershower may occur at a few places over the districts in the next 24 hours. The weather agency issued yellow warning of a thunderstorm with lightning accompanied by gusty surface windspeed reaching 30-40 kmph in some places of Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Boudh, Nuapada, Bolangir, and Subarnapur in next 24 hours.
