India records 3.11 new coronavirus cases, lowest rise in 25 days

New Delhi: India has reported 3.11 lakh new coronavirus infections in the last 24 hours. It is the lowest rise in the last 25 days the Union Health Ministry data said. The death toll in Indian rose to 2,70,284 with 4,077 new fatalities, the Health Ministry data updated Sunday said. A total of 3,11,170 new cases were reported in a day, taking India’s total tally of COVID-19 cases to  2,46,84,077. A total of 2,95,041 cases were reported in a span of 24 hours April 21.

The active cases have reduced to 36,18,458 comprising 14.66 per cent of the total infections. The national COVID-19 recovery rate has improved to 84.25 per cent, the Health Ministry data said.

The number of people who have recuperated from the disease has gone up to 2,07,95,335. Currently the case fatality rate (CFR) stands at 1.09 per cent, the data stated.

India’s COVID-19 tally had crossed the 20-lakh mark August 7, 30 lakh August 23 and 50 lakh September 16. It went past 60 lakh September 28 and surpassed the one-crore mark December 19.India crossed the grim milestone of 2 crore May 4.

According to the ICMR, 31,48,50,143 samples have been tested up to May 15 with 18,32,950 samples being tested Saturday.

The 4,077 new fatalities include 960 from Maharashtra and 349 from Karnataka. Other states that reported high number of fatalities are Delhi (337), Tamil Nadu (303), Uttar Pradesh (281), Punjab (216), Uttarakhand (197), Rajasthan (149), Haryana and West Bengal (144 each) and Chhattisgarh (129).

A total of 2,70,284 deaths have been reported so far India with 80,512 from Maharashtra 21,434 from Karnataka and 21,244 from Delhi.

The Health Ministry stressed that more than 70 per cent of the deaths occurred due to comorbidities.

“Our figures are being reconciled with the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR),” the ministry said on its website. It added that state-wise distribution of figures is subject to further verification and reconciliation.
