Bhubaneswar: The Indian visually-impaired cricket team defeated Sri Lanka by three runs Friday in the second T20 match of the bilateral series and take a 2-0 lead in the five-match series in Colombo.

Put into bat, India posted a challenging 180/8 in 20 overs. Sunil Ramesh (42, 38b, 1×4) top scored for India while Ajay Kumar (31), Durga Rao (25) and Ganesh Muhudkar (27) supporting him.

In reply, Sri Lanka were restricted to 177/8 in 20 overs and India won the thriller. Amol Karache (2/18) was the pick of the Indian bowlers while Durga, Naresh and Ajay got a wicket apiece. Ajith Silva (64 n o, 33b) batted well for the hosts.

Brief scores: India 180/8 (Sunil Ramesh 42, Ajay Kumar 31; D Ravindra 1/29) beat Sri Lanka 177/8 (Ajith Silva 64 n o, Chandana Desapriya 41, Amol Karache 2/18) by three runs.

 

East Zone win

Dhara Gujjar (143, 156b, 13×4) scored a brilliant century and Shreya Karar’s (4/9) fiery bowling helped East Zone thrash North East Zone by 263 runs Friday in a one-day match of the Women’s Inter-Zonal cricket tournament in Chennai.

Batting first, East Zone posted a mammoth 303 for the loss of four wickets in 50 overs. Besides Dhara, Ankita Chakraborty (73 n o, 101b, 5×4) played a good unbeaten knock. However, both Odisha batswomen Poonam Nayak (0) and Kajal Jena (two) failed to impress.

In reply, North East Zone were bowled out for paltry 40 runs in 22.4 overs. Odisha’s Kalpana Nayak (2/10) also bowled well.
