Bhubaneswar, June 25: The Indian men’s and women’s teams bagged two bronze medals in 4×100 metres relay on the concluding day of the Asian Grand Pix Leg-II athletics meet in Bangkok, Thursday.
The men’s team comprising Amiya Kumar Mallick, Jyoti Sankar Debnath, Krishna Kumar Rane and Manikandan Arumgam secured third position clocking 39.60 seconds. Hong Kong took the top honours with a timing of 39.44s while Thailand clinched silver (39.45s).
The women’s team comprising Srabani Nanda, Himashree Roy, MG Padmini and Gayathri Govindaraj clocked 45.33s to finish behind China (44.80s) and Thailand (45.03s) and secure another bronze for India.
Title for Ameek
Ameek Kiran Batth of Orissa won the under-14 girls’ singles AITA-OTA talent series title defeating Mekhala Manna of West Bengal 6-1, 6-1 in the final at the Kalinga Stadium courts here Thursday. In a one-sided final lasting 75 minutes, Ameek did not allow her opponent to settle down and deservedly emerged champion.
Earlier in the first semifinal top-seeded Ameek trounced fourth seed Ayesha Swain 6-0, 6-0. In the other semifinal, Mekhala accounted for Aashra Patel of Orissa 6-2, 6-0.
