Indians win 8 medals

Bangkok, June 22: Srabani Nanda of Orissa bagged bronze medal in the 100 metres women’s race of the Asian Grand Prix leg-II Athletic Meet here, Monday.
Srabani secured third position by clocking 11.58 seconds. Zyabkina Viktoriya of Kazakhstan and Liang Xiaojing of China grabbed the gold and silver medals respectively by clocking 11.36s and 11.52s respectively.
The Indian athletics team won eight medals including two gold, one silver and five bronze medals in their first outing. Jinson Johnson (1 minute 48.52 seconds) won gold in the men’s 800 m, while reigning Asian champion shot putter Inderjit Singh added the second gold with a throw of 19.8m. Long jumper Ankit Sharma won silver with an effort of 7.78m.
The other medal winners in the Indian team were MR Poovamma, who won bronze in the women’s 400m race clocking 53.51 seconds. Asian Games 2014 bronze medallist Arokya Rajiv (46.86s) claimed bronze in the men’s 400m.
In the women’s 100m hurdles, India’s Gayathry Govindraj (13.72s) bagged bronze while M Gomathi (2:07.48s) also won a bronze in the women’s 800m.
In other events, India’s triple jumper Sheena NV finished seventh with a jump of 12.22m, while discus thrower Navjeet Kaur Dhillon produced a best throw of 52.04m to finish fifth.
