Balasore: A man beat his wife to death in front of their 5-year-old daughter suspecting her character and later hanged himself to death near her body. The incident was reported from Majhi Sahi in Baripada panchayat of Balasore district Thursday night.
The deceased couple has been identified as Buddhiram Majhi, (32), and Tulasi Majhi, (28). Neighbours said the couple had been married for six years.
An exchange of words between an inebriated Budhhiram and his wife over some issue soon took an ugly turn and escalated into a heated duel.
In a rage, Buddhiram took a blunt object and started beating his wife mercilessly, killing her on the spot right in front of their daughter. As the alcohol wore off Budhhiram realised his folly.
What is more shocking is that Buddhiram, after killing Tulasi, called up his mother-in-law, confessed to his crime and handed over the phone to his daughter.
He then hanged himself from a ceiling fan near his wife’s body. After the phone call, Tulasi’s parents rushed to the house and found their daughter lying in a pool of blood and son-in-law hanging from the ceiling.
They then informed the police. Police sent the bodies for autopsy and launched a probe.
Police said the accused who worked in Kolkata suspected the character of Tulasi for long and this could have led to the murder.
