Inflammable gas comes out from new tube well

The gas from tube well catches fire

Kendrapara: Inflammable gas has been coming out from a newly dug tube well in Bahara Sobala village of Mahakalapada block. Frightened locals brought the matter to the notice of Fire Services personnel.

The Fire Services officials examined the tube well and told the family not to keep inflammable items near the tube well.

Sources said Narayan Mohapatra, a resident of Bahara Sobala village, dug 127 feet and installed a tube well. Later, gases started coming out from the tube well.

Suspecting that it could be inflammable, the family lit a matchstick outside the tube well. Soon the gas caught fire, said Narayan Mohapatra.

As reports of the gas emission spread, people from neighbouring areas made a beeline to the site.

Locals have asked the district administration to ascertain what type of gas is coming out from the tube well. Mahakalapada Fire Services personnel rushed to the spot and put out the fire.

The fire brigade personnel suspect that the gas might be methane. Officials told the family that in coastal areas many trees are destroyed by tidal waters and later they decompose. While decomposing, gas forms and when it gets an outlet it comes out from the ground.
