Infosys founder NR Narayana Murthy in his latest interview said that if India wishes to compete with economies that have achieved extraordinary heights in the last 2-3 decades, then Indian youngsters need to work 70 hours a week to achieve their goals.
Murthy, a Padma awardee, shared his views on the first episode of ‘The Record’ podcast, which was aired on 3one4 Capital YouTube channel.
In conversation with former Infosys CFO Mohandas Pai in the podcast, Murthy talked on various topics including technology, nation building, and Infosys vision.
Murthy expressed his concern about India’s average productivity and its potential as a developing economy and advised the youth to push for extra working hours.
The Infosys founder gave references of Germany and Japan, how they thrived after World War 2 and asked youth to take inspiration from these economies so that India could also compete at the global level.
“India’s work productivity is one of the lowest in the world. Unless we improve our work productivity, unless we reduce corruption in the government at some level, because we have been reading I don’t know the truth of it, unless we reduce the delays in our bureaucracy in taking this decision, we will not be able to compete with those countries that have made tremendous progress,” he said.
Murthy urged the youth of India to say ‘this is my country. I would like to work 70 hours a week’.
