Bhubaneswar: A day after a court in Jagatsinghpur district sentenced a man to capital punishment after convicting him for rape and murder of a minor girl, Odisha Police felicitated a police officer and the special public prosecutor of the case for their good work.
Odisha Police Wednesday felicitated special public prosecutor of Jagatsinghpur, Siba Prasad Majhi and Inspector- in-charge (IIC) of Erasama police station, Bichitrananda Sethi.
The officer and lawyer were felicitated to boost the morale of the people engaged in delivering justice to the people, DGP B K Sharma said after felicitating the duo.
“It was nice teamwork and investigation by the investigating officer and special PP,” the DGP said while appreciating the effort of Sethi and Majhi.
A minor girl was raped and murdered March 21, 2018, in a place under the jurisdiction of Erasama police station of Jagatsinghpur district.
Sethi had registered the case under various sections of IPC and Section 6 of POCSO Act and took up investigation.
The IIC took help of the services of a dog squad and collected material evidence through a scientific team.
The accused Laba alias Kalia Mana was arrested and forwarded to court two days after the rape and murder.
Mana was charge-sheeted within 60 days of the incident May 21, 2018, under charges of rape, murder and offence under POCSO Act.
Majhi took up the case before Additional Session Judge-cum-special Judge, Jagatsinghpur. The judge convicted Mana and sentenced him to capital punishment Tuesday.
