Inter-district dacoit gang busted, seven arrested

Ranpur: In a major crackdown, the police claimed to have busted an inter-district looters’ gang and arrested seven dacoits in Nayagarh district while two were absconded late Friday night. A case was registered and forwarded to court.

The police team also seized deadly a weapon, two knives, chilli powder and two bikes from their possession.

The accused have been identified as Dilip Moharana (22) of Lathipada under Itamati police limit, Mitu Swain (25) of Narayanpatna, Batu Moharana (37) of Lathipada, S. K. Sakim Ali Khan (28) of Bambadar, Bikram kumar Bhanja (26) of Gopalpur, Raju Das (37) of Akhupadar and Kabiraj pujari of Dhauli (35).

The escaped have been identified as Jagabandhu Moharana(25) and Bulu Moharana (23) of Lathipada under Itamati police limit.

At a press meet here, Ranpur SDPO S. Sivilar Toppo said that a joint team of Ranpur police acting on a tip-off busted nine members of the gang near Chataipada of Asurkumari area where they were planning for the next loot and arrested the seven looters while two were absconding from the spot.

According to police reports the gang was active in Khurdha, Ganjam and Puri districts.

Police said that the arrested persons are involved in several dacoity incidents and have complaints against their names in several police stations.
