Baliguda: In a major crackdown, the police claimed to have busted an inter-district looters’ gang and arrested six dacoits in Kandhamal district late Wednesday night. A case was registered and forwarded to court.
The police team also seized a deadly weapon, two knives, two sticks, four mobile phones and eight bikes from their possession.
The accused have been identified as Purushottam Rana, Navin alias Narendra Guru, Suryakant Majhi, Sanju alias Sanjeev Rana, Santu Mahallik and Santu Barik.
Police said the gang members were apprehended while they were hatching a plan at Kanjalagu ghats under Baliguda police limits and Kandhamal district. Tipped off about the group having assembled at Kanjalagu ghat, police swung into action and caught the six accused.
The gang of six allegedly looted one Manas Kumar Digal’s father and father-in law of Khamankhol area October 6 by attacking them. Following which Manas filed an FIR at the Baliguda police station.
The villagers held some of the persons after being suspicious. On being informed the police officials also reached the spot and started an investigation into the matter before arresting the accused.
Police said that the arrested persons were involved in several dacoity incidents and have complaints against their names at several police stations.
