Dharmasala, August 13: Police busted a gang of inter-state dacoits by arresting nine of its members while the
latter were preparing the blueprint of a jewellery heist in Dharmasala police station area of Jajpur district late Wednesday night.
One member of the gang managed to flee when the police raided the foothills of Deuli. Three mobile phones, two billhooks, two iron bars, a knife and other sharp-edged weapons, `40,000 in cash, five motorcycles and gold ornaments were seized from the dacoits. They were planning to loot Akhandalmani jewellery shop at Jaraka Bazaar, said additional superintendent of police (ASP) Dhruba Charan Puhan and police IIC Amitav Mohapatra at a press meet
here Thursday.

of Kanpur in Dharmasala, Manoj Kumar Upadhaya of Andapur Sasan in Balasore, Prasant Kumar Mohanty of Choramuhan in Dharmasala, Manoranjan Biswal of Bantra in Kuakhia, Soumya Ranjan Mohanty of Khadagpur in Balichandrapur, Nanda Kishore Mallick of Telipokhari in Jenapur and a jeweller Bansidhar Sahu of Khadagpur in Balichandrapur. Banku of Mushtikiri managed to escape during the raid, Puhan said.
The accused were Thursday produced in a court and
remanded in judicial custody after the magistrate rejected their bail pleas.
The accused, having criminal antecedents, have 22 cases pending in their names at
various police stations including Jajpur Road, Panikoili and Keonjhar, Mohapatra said. The gang was involved in
highway robbery.
