Inter-state train dacoity gang busted: 5 held

Berhampur: The Government Railway Police (GRP) here busted an inter-state train dacoity gang late Monday night and arrested five persons. The miscreants were waiting at a secluded place on platform No 4 at the railway station here. They were planning to board a train to commit dacoity, officials said. Those arrested have been identified as K Gurumulu, 34, of Vizianagaram, D Cheena, 28, of East Godavari, J Hari, 22 and M Ramakrushna, 32 of Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh and Ranjan Kumar Sahu, 20, resident of Deogarh.

Officials said they were planning to board a late-night train and rob passengers. GRP officials informed that during night patrolling they were tipped off about the presence of miscreants at a secluded spot on the Palasa side of platform No 4.

Accordingly, they conducted a raid and arrested the five. During interrogation, police found out that the group used to collect plastic bottles at the station during the day. Hence they were aware of the arrival and departure times of trains. Accordingly, they planned their operations. They did not use mobile phones as they were afraid that calls might be tracked but instead met in person to plan their next move. Police seized two laptops, two packets of chilli powder, two knives, a torch, and three iron rods from the possession of those arrested. All the accused were forwarded to court Tuesday after police registered a case (No-133/23) against them.
