BHUBANESWAR: Udghosh’19, a national-level quiz competition, was conducted by Qutopia, the quizzing society of KIIT- University, at Boitech Auditorium on its campus here Thursday.
Udghosh is one of the largest national level open quiz competitions in the country. It aims to provide a platform for exposure among students and quizzing enthusiasts connecting present-day quizzers to the legends of the past.
Qutopia, the quizzing society of KIIT University, Bhubaneswar, was founded in the year 2004 as the first student quiz club of the state. Qutopia aims to be the perfect platform for seekers of knowledge, born out of a desire to learn more about the world and beyond.
In the quiz, around 300 people from all over the country participated. Mostly school, college students and corporate employees of all age groups participated in the event.
Coordinator, Qutopia, Shubham Saurav said, “Udghosh wants to introduce quizzing among general people and help them to build interest in learning new things. We are in the second decade of our glorious existence and taking our legacy forward, we bring to you our annual flagship event on an even grander note. The participants were from different backgrounds, with members varying from school children to corporate with decades of quizzing experience.”
“All participants were waiting patiently for the quiz to commence. It was similar to the calm before storm. It’s one of the most testing, intense and yet fulfilling quizzing experiences. Belligerent participants from all over the country will fight for the top prize with their full might,” said an excited Saurav.
Qutopia is the oldest quizzing society of Eastern India. It started organising Udghosh with the aim of creating a common platform for s top quizzers of the country. The competition witnesses teams who come from Bangalore, Hyderabad and many other cities.
Few of the people who qualified for the finals were Jayankantan from Chennai, Preetham Updhaya from Bangalore and Gokul from New Delhi. “We can assure that we would try to make Udghosh bigger and better with more number of participants,” added Saurav.
The quizzing session was hosted by Major Chandrakant Nair, who is one of the best quizmasters of India. Cash prizes were given to the finalists. The winner took home Rs 75,000, while the first runner-up bagged Rs 50,000. Rs 25,000, Rs 10,000 and Rs 5,000 were bagged by the second runner-up, best College Team and best School Team respectively. Certificates and coupons for the audience added gloss to the event as visitors felt more involved in the competition.
The rules for national-level quizzes are quite intricate. Each team consists of two members. Cross teaming is allowed with each competition lasting for two rounds. The first round would be Prelims (written) while the top scoring eight teams from this round qualify for the on-stage finals.
