Irregularities in PDS; no action against retailers

Sajanagad: The civil supplies department in the tribal-dominated Nilagiri block of Balasore is allegedly neck deep in massive irregularities. Some dealers and retailed have been misappropriating subsidized food material and kerosene with ration cards made in the names of dead persons, migrant labourers and non-aadhar linked ration cards.

Three retailers were served notices, but no action was taken against them, it was learnt.

Such irregularities have taken place in 25 panchayats. Even though the locals had drawn attention of the block civil supplies officer towards the ongoing irregularities, no action has been taken in this direction.

Reports said, there are 83 retailers tasked to disburse subsidized food stuff to 22,933 ration card-holding families.

The number of ration cards, however has not been revised or obligated since 2015. The administration has not yet updated their data and revised the supply provision.

Taking advantage of loop holes, dealers are bungling food stuff of non-updated accounts or though ghost beneficiries.

Here is a case in point in Matiala panchayat. In this panchayat, 22 beneficiaries have not received their food quota from retailer Narendra Nayak for the last two months.

The retained allegedly sold their entitlements in the market. Locals apprised the marketing inspector of the civil supplies department in this regard.

The retailer has been served with show cause notice October 29.

However, no action was taken against the retained even after 13 days have passed.

Meanwhile, it was learnt that two other retailers have been served with show cause notices.

But no action has been taken against them.
