New Delhi/Bhubaneswar: Odisha born Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer Jagannath Bidyadhar Mohapatra was approved as the Chairman of the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) Wednesday.
Mohapatra is currently working as a Member of CBDT. A 1985-batch IRS officer, Mohapatra was given the additional charge as CBDT Chairman after the extended tenure of incumbent PC Mody concluded in May 2021.
CBDT frames policy for the Income Tax Department. It is headed by a Chairman and can have six members.
Mohapatra and two of his IRS batchmates were appointed to CBDT May 27. Their service ends in April next year.
Earlier, Mohapatra was also the Andhra Pradesh and Telangana region’s Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax.
It may be mentioned here that Jagannath is the elder brother of late Congress leader Lalatendu Bidyadhar Mohapatra and current Brahmagiri MLA Lalitendu Bidyadhar Mohapatra.
