There are many islands in the world that are full of mysteries. One such island is in Scotland called Eynhallow Island.
This heart shaped island is very beautiful, but what’s astonishing is the fact that people are allowed here only one day in a year as it is impossible to visit this place on the remaining 364 days.
Eynhallow Island is located just 500 meters from Orkney Island, where people live, but despite this it is not easy to come to Eynhallow. It is not possible to reach here even by boat, because of the strong tidal surges in the surrounding strait, squeezed between Mainland of Orkney and Rousay.
This island is so small that it is very difficult to find on the map. There are also many mysterious stories about this island. It is also said that, Eynhallow is a place of pilgrimage and ritual, folklore and ghosts.
According to legend, this island is possessed by evil spirits. If any person tries to come to this island, then these evil spirits make the place disappear, deterring any potential visitor. Others were told more fantastical stories about the finfolk, or mer-people: watery shape shifters who only came on land in summer.
According to Professor Dan Lee of the University of Scotland, people lived on this island thousands of years ago, but a plague spread here in the year 1851, forcing the natives to flee.
Now this island is completely deserted. Debris of many old buildings have been found here. According to archaeologists, many stone walls have also been found.
No one is aware of when this island was formed. Archaeologists say that it is a research site. If researched on this, many such mysteries of history will be revealed, which will surprise people.
