ITI Berhampur combats plastic pollution with UN collaboration

Berhampur: ITI Berhampur has joined forces with the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) in a new initiative to educate the public about reducing plastic bottle use and keeping the planet clean.

In a unique display, ITI Berhampur created a 12-foot-tall metal faucet constructed from recycled scrap materials. This symbolic tap dispenses plastic bottles, highlighting the issue of plastic pollution. The message “turning off the tap” figuratively encourages a reduction in plastic bottle consumption.

This initiative embodies the ‘Waste2Wealth’ concept, promoting a circular economy where waste is repurposed into valuable resources. Rajat Kumar Panigrahi, the institute’s principal, believes this innovative approach will educate hundreds of students and visitors who come to the campus regularly. The team effort of ITI Berhampur’s students and staff has received widespread praise.
