Jajpur, June 16: Haryana and Jajpur Kabaddi Association-A (JKA-A) emerged champions in the men’s and the women’s categories respectively in the 60th All India Kabaddi Championships, which concluded at Khanditara here Tuesday.
In the men’s category, Haryana edged past Uttar Pradesh 9-5 in a keenly-contested final to clinch the title. In the women’s category summit clash, JKA pipped West Bengal 12-10 to take the top honours.
In the state level tournament, Orissa Police VIth Battalion thrashed KIIT 27-7 in the final to emerge champions.
State steel and mines minister Prafulla Kumar Mallick was present as the chief guest and distributed the prizes.
Manish slips
Manish Kumar of Orissa slipped to the joint second position in the boys’ category after playing out a drab draw Tuesday against Aditya Mittal in the eighth round of the U-9 Chess Championships at Ahmedabad. Manish is now tied in the second spot along with four others with 6.5 points each.
Prasmit Prayanshu registered an emphatic win against Shahil Dey and improved his position to joint fourth with 5.5 points. Aditya Anurakta Mohanty is also tied with him with an identical score after scripting an easy victory against Prraneeth Vuppala.
In the girls’ segment, P Sairupa got the better of M Sahithi Varshini, while Bijaylaxmi Barik prevailed over Manushri Deva. However Miracle Panda lost to M Sahithi Varshini.
Team feted
Orissa Governer SC Jamir felicitated the Orissa Sepak Takraw women’s team for winning the 18th Women’s Sub-Junior Sepak Takraw Championships at Kanyakumari, in a special function at Soochana Bhawan here Tuesday. All the members of the team were presented with trophies and certificates.
