Jamshedpur sign legendary Oz forward Cahill

Tim Cahill signs for Jamshedpur FC

Jamshedpur: Indian Super League (ISL) side Jamshedpur FC have roped in Saturday legendary Australian forward Tim Cahill for the upcoming season, the club announced in a press release.

“I’m excited to announce that I’m signing for Jamshedpur FC in the Indian Super League,” Cahill tweeted.

“I’ve been really impressed in my conversations with the club by their professionalism and goals for what they want to achieve. I know I can help the team on and off the park with my leadership and experience. I want to help grow the game and encourage young kids to play football,” the tweet added.

The 38-year-old former Everton striker announced his international retirement following the 2018 World Cup but isn’t ready to hang up his boots completely just yet.

He is also the country’s all-time leading goal scorer with 50 goals from 107 appearances. He will join his new teammates in Spain where Jamshedpur are currently having their pre-season camp.

Cahill started his journey at English Club Millwall in 1998 before moving to Everton in 2004 where he became a household name. He then had spells with New York Red Bulls, Shanghai Shenhua and Melbourne City. Cahill has also represented Australia U-23 team three times before playing in four World Cups for the senior team.

Though India will surely mark his final playing destination, the Australian striker has already set his sights on coaching, having recently undertaken studies for his UEFA B licence.
