Bhubaneswar, August 7: The Hindi version of the popular Sambalpuri song ‘Rangabati’ from Nila Madhab Panda’s upcoming movie Kaun Kitney Pani Mein was launched Thursday. It received mixed response from the listeners.
The track sung by Krishna Beura and Rekha Rao features Bollywood actors Radhika Apte, Kunal Kapoor and Gulshan Grover along with Odissi dancer Saswat Joshi and Oriya actress Prakruti Mishra. The Hindi version is written by Protique Mojoomdar and composed by KB Tunes.
Since its release in YouTube around 85,346 people have viewed the song with 578 likes and 51 unlikes.
Recently, the Coke studio version of ‘Rangabati’ by Sona Mahapatra, Rituraj Mohanty and Ram Sampath got mired in controversy. Inspired by the original song of the 1970s, the Hindi version is Nila Madhab Panda’s tribute to the original creator.
In the song’s video Radhika Apte is seen dressed as a tribal girl in a Sambalpuri sari. The essence of Bali Yatra has been beautifully portrayed. The use of Lord Jagannath, Goddess Subadhra and Lord Balabhadra gives it a characteristic Oriya look.
Ananta Prasad, a communication official said, “I liked the music a lot and the fact that a local song can be included in a Bollywood movie. Though I didn’t like the lyrics I appreciate the effort of the director in taking it to a level where many people would come to know of the original. The effort is noteworthy. Now this song has reached Bollywood from Sambalpur and we feel proud.”
Though it is being appreciated by many listeners there are others who feel that the Coke studio version of the song was better than the Hindi version. “I heard the Hindi version and feel that Sona Mohapatra’s and Ram Sampath’s Coke Studio version was better. The female part in the Hindi version has ruined the song though I like the part sung by Krishna Beura. The lyrics could have been better if some Oriya words had been used in the song to enrich its flavour. In the song ‘Tune maari entriyaan’ they did put some Bengali words and the result was fantastic,” said Rasmiranjan Sarangi.
Jitendra Haripal, the original singer of ‘Rangabati’ told Orissa POST that the director didn’t take his permission before using the song. “I haven’t heard the Hindi version of ‘Rangabati’ yet. I don’t know how the song has been rendered in Hindi. I read that Nila Madhab has said that he had taken permission from me and Krishna before making the Hindi version. But the truth is he never took any permission from me or other members of the Rangabati team. What I want to say is that since the original composer, singer and writer of the song are alive, it would have been better had Sona or Panda showed some respect to the original artistes.”
Starring Kunal Kapoor, Radhika Apte, Gulshan Grover and Saurabh Shukla, the film is scheduled to release on August 28.
