Bhatli: Even as jaundice has been spreading its tentacles in parts of Bargarh district, a man of Raisobha village under this block died while 17 are affected of the disease Sunday, reports said.
The deceased has been identified as Gopinath Bag. Meanwhile, Bag’s death has unnerved the residents who were found spreading apprehensive moments over the danger arising out of the spread of the disease.
Sources said, Behera was undergoing treatment in a local hospital for last few weeks, but succumbed to the disease Sunday.
Meanwhile, the condition of the 17 others who have been admitted to different hospitals remained critical. The spread of the disease in the last 15 days has spread panic among the villagers.
They held the apathetic attitude of the administration responsible for the spread of the disease. They expressed outrage as no medical team has reached the village and taken preventive measures to tackle the disease despite repeated complaints.
They demanded a medical team to visit the village immediately and take stock of the situation before it turns worse.
The villagers complained that this has been happening every year and the authorities have not taken any steps to address the problem. The disease aggravated during the rainy season and urgent steps were required to be taken to tackle the disease.
The CDMO said he has directed the authorities to take adequate steps in this regard.
