Jawan killed in mob attack in Ganjam district, local police initiate probe

Ganjam: In an untoward incident of mob violence at Badula village under Gangapur police limits in Ganjam district, one person was killed while another was severely injured Thursday. The deceased has been identified as Ranjan Nahaka (27) of Nandighor village.

The deceased who is an army jawan was brutally attacked with sharp weapons near Nadula Chhak here. Though he was rescued later and taken to a nearby hospital, he succumbed to injuries after bleeding profusely. Doctors at the hospital declared him brought dead.

It has been learnt that two of Ranjan’s friends also sustained serious injuries in the attack and are being treated at a hospital in Aska town. Local police have launched a probe into the case by detaining over five persons for interrogation, suspecting their involvement.

Body of the deceased was seized by Gangapur police and sent for postmortem. Though exact reason behind attack is yet to be ascertained, police are waiting for the injured persons to recover and record their statements, local police sources informed.
