Jeet conquers hat-trick of snooker titles

Cuttack, July 19: Jeet Kishore Das put up a dominant show to brush aside Rakesh Roshan Pradhan in the final to emerge champion of the VIth Pradeep Sen Memorial All Orissa Open Snooker Championship at the Cuttack Club here Sunday.
Jeet continued with his top form as he prevailed over Rakesh 6-1 (69-29, 63- 46, 28-57, 53-50, 56-3, 58-6, 63-43) in the lop-sided final. Initially Rakesh gave a bit of challenge to Jeet, but as the game progressed, Jeet grew with confidence and he was at his best in the fifth and sixth frames when he just allowed his opponent one visit to the table.
Jeet who is the current State Snooker and Handicap champion was elated to bag the third trophy in a row. “It feels great to win a hat-trick of trophies. After losing the third frame, I decided to play aggressively and didn’t give my opponent a chance to get back into the game,” said Jeet.
Cuttack Club president Subhendu Mohan Patnaik was present as the guest and distributed the prizes. Jeet bagged a cash prize of `15,000, while Rakesh took home `10,000.

 
Orissa players static
Orissa players remained static in their respective overnight positions after playing out drab draws in the ninth round matches of the U-11 Open Chess Championship in Pondicherry, Sunday.
Sambit Panda shared points with Aditya Mittal of Maharashtra and held his joint second spot along with four others with seven points. Mahitosh Dey was also held by Soumma Chakraborty of West Bengal. Mahitosh is now sharing the joint fourth position with state mate Vaibhav Singh. Vaibhav played a stalemate against Pritha Gupta of Delhi. Both are having six points out of a possible nine.

 
Asirbad wins
Asirbad Behera was unanimously elected as the secretary of Cuttack District Athletic Association (CDAA) for the sixth time in a row at the Barabati Stadium club house here Sunday. Pankaj Mohanty has been elected as the executive president.
