New Delhi: Balasore MP Rabindra Kumar Jena (BJD) Tuesday demanded direct flights from Bhubaneswar to Pune and revival of Rasgovindpur Airport.
Speaking during Zero Hour in the Lok Sabha, Jena said, “The Biju Patnaik International Airport registered a growth of 39.4 per cent in passenger traffic in 2017-18 fiscal. Our Chief Minister has written to the civil aviation minister for a direct flight between Bhubaneswar and Pune because these are the two cities in eastern part and western part which are growing phenomenally in IT and education sectors. It takes six to seven hours to reach Pune from Bhubaneswar, though one can reach London in six hours.”
“We have got one airport for every 70 lakh to 80 lakh population in our country whereas in Odisha we have just one airport for our 4.2 crore people. The second one is in the pipeline,” he said
Jena also demanded revival of the Rasgovindpur Airport in Baripada. The Balasore MP said that the airport has been abandoned since World War II.
“I demand that the government should start direct flights between Bhubaneswar and Pune and also revive the Rasgovindpur Airport with immediate effect,” he added.
