Jeypore: The last surviving queen of the Jeypore royal family, Rama Kumari Devi breathed her last Sunday night at the Moti Mahal palace here. She was 92 and suffering from old-age-related complications for a long time. Rama Kumari was the wife of the late Rama Krushna Dev, the last king of Jeypore estate. She was also an MLA representing the Madgul Assembly constituency in Andhra Pradesh. Her daughter-in-law Sarika Devi and grandson Chandrachud Dev were present at her bedside at the time of her death.
On being informed about Rama Devi’s demise, several dignitaries including sub-collector Bedavara Pradhan, district president of the Congress, Meenakshi Bahinipati, tehsildar Pradhan Tuli Amma, Jeypore Municipality EO Siddharth Patnaik and chairperson B Sunita, SDPO Arup Abhishek Behera, Town police IIC Sambit Behera visited the palace and paid their last respects. Jeypore MLA Tara Prasad Bahinipati expressed condolences on the queen’s death. Her last rites were performed at the crematorium at Chandanbad locality here as per royal customs and traditions.
