Jharsuguda airport: Show-cause notice served on Air Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The Union ministry of civil aviation has slapped a show-cause notice on Air Odisha airline for discontinuing flight operations from the newly inaugurated Veer Surendra Sai (VSS) Airport at Jharsuguda.
Airport authorities said Air Odisha has cancelled flight services from October 7 this year citing technical reasons. However, the airline had said that it would resume the flight operations in two days.
“Jharsuguda Airport is a full-fledged functional airport and available for all domestic scheduled and non-scheduled operations. The selected Airline under UDAN has been issued with show-cause for discontinuing its operations quoting technical reasons,” the ministry tweeted, Wednesday.
Non-commencement within the prescribed period would lead for cancellation of current award, the ministry added. The Centre also assured that routes would be opened for bidding and will be allocated to eligible airlines for better connectivity.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi September 22 inaugurated the airport and flagged off flights under the Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik (UDAN) scheme. The airport is being expected to play a significant role in the development of western Odisha giving impetus to the growing tourism industry in the region.
The Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has given permission to Air Odisha to operate flights from Jharsuguda to Bhubaneswar, Ranchi and Raipur under the scheme.
