Berhampur: A youth allegedly slit the throat of a college girl over unrequited love in Ganjam district Wednesday.
The victim was admitted to a hospital in a critical condition, but was now reported to be stable. The accused is absconding.
The incident, which was the fallout of a one-sided love affair, was reported from Ralab village under Hinjili police limits .
The victim, who is studying in Plus III final year at Konkorada College, works at a customer care service centre.
The youth, who works in a private company in Surat, had come to the village a few months ago and fell in love with the girl. However, the girl did not reciprocate his feelings.
Angered by the rejection, he slit the girl’s throat with a razor when she was alone in the office Wednesday afternoon.
Soon after the incident, the culprit fled the spot while the victim was rushed to Hinjili community health centre for treatment.
