Rayagada: Contractual labourers Friday launched ceased work pressing for fulfillment of their 14-point charter of demands at JK pur.
Over 4,000 contractual workers led by two employees union of the mill JK Paper Mill Employees Union and Contractual Workers’ Union assembled at the plant site gate and staged demonstration from 6 am in the morning locking up all nine gates of the plant.
The agitating labourers later stopped work at the mist chamber of the mill, disrupting production.
Meanwhile, five platoons of police force have been deployed at the plant premises to maintain law and order.
Sources said, a meeting was held at the Rayagada Sub-Collector’s office involving the labour leaders and plant authorities over the demands Thursday. However, the meeting failed, prompting the workers to launch the stir.
The agitating workers’ demands include pay hike and regularisation of their jobs among others.
