Jobs soon for NINL oustees

Jajpur: The row raging between Nilachal Ispat Nigam Limited (NINL) and the people displaced by it came to an end Friday.

A tripartite meeting was held at the office of the Additional District Magistrate. The administration directed the NINL authorities to accept the main demands of the displaced. Other demands will be discussed at the forthcoming Rehabilitation and Peripheral Development Advisory Committee meeting.

The administration ordered the NINL that quick steps must be taken to give jobs to the kin of the displaced who have died.

Following the direction, the displaced people called off their agitation slated for January 28.

The Nilachal Basachyuta Committee had planned a stir over its 15-point charter of demands in front of the NINL plant. The NINL authorities were informed of the stir January 13.

But the plant authorities did not hold any talks to sort out the issues. The displaced families then decided to lock all the three gates of the plant January 21.

The administration called a meeting with the ousted families at the Kalinganagar police station January 21. It was decided that a meeting would be held January 25.

ADM Santosh Kumar Mishra, Special Land Acquisition Officer Sapan Nanda, District Labour Officer Shibashankar Mishra, Kalinganagar ASP Rajkishore Dora and IIC Rajendranarayan Pattnaik on behalf of the administration, and NINL GM Sirish Mohapatra, DGM Goutam Kumar Rath, Senior Manager Kamalesh Mohapatra on behalf of the plant management and members of the displaced committee – Benudhar Nayak, Babuli Purty, Mahiram Purty and Manoj Tudu – and labour union leader Pratap Jena attended the meet.

Issues like drinking water, road connectivity, drain restoration, playground, cremation ground and renovation of a pond in the colony of the displaced people were discussed.

The administration asked the NINL authorities to provide healthcare facility to all the displaced and contract agencies were asked to provide ID cards to all the displaced working for them.

Kalinganagar ADM said the company authorities were directed to give jobs to all the eligible displaced within a month.
