Joda-Keonjhar road connectivity snaps due to land slide near Baitarani River bridge on NH-520

Joda: Hit by floodwater of the River Baitarani, the land near its run down bridge slid on national highway (NH-520) at Basudevpur area under Joda block in Keonjhar district Thursday afternoon.

Following the land slide, Joda-Keonjhar road connectivity was completely snapped and vehicular movement was halted for long hours. Hundreds of mineral-laden trucks from Joda, Barbil and Koida areas move through this bridge every day.

Local commuters from Champua and Keonjhar also use the bridge to go to Cuttack and Bhubaneswar.

After a large part of the land near this bridge slid, movement over it has become risky and difficult. As a result, road connectivity to Champua subdivision headquarters as well as Keonjhar Sadar headquarters has been disrupted.

On being contacted, Barbil tehsildar Khirod Kumar Behera said, “Vehicular movement through the bridge road has been completely halted since yesterday evening. Repair work was also started immediately.”
