Keonjhar: The district court in Keonjhar sentenced Monday two persons to life imprisonment for raping a minor in Joda area in June 2019.
Additional District and Special Court Judge Loknath Sahu pronounced life imprisonment sentences to Srivastav Lohar (20) and Dumbi Munda (25) after finding them guilty of rape.
The accused were charged under various sections of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
The court also slapped a fine of Rs 10, 000 each on the convicts. In case of default the convicts will have to undergo an additional jail term for one year each.
According to public prosecutor Ganesh Prasad Mohapatra, three others named in the case have been released because of lack of proof.
According to persecution, Lohar was in a relationship with the victim. He called her to a secluded place and there he tried to force himself on her. Just then, the other accused persons arrived at the spot and also allegedly raped the victim.
On the basis of the report lodged by the victim and her family members, police had arrested all the five accused and produced them in court.
