Jolt to fixing Mahaprasad prices

Puri: An effort to fix the prices of Mahaprasad received a serious jolt when the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) failed to cook the temple delicacies on an experimental basis Sunday.

Though the temple administration did not provide any particular reason behind its failure to cook Mahaprasad for ascertaining the cost of production, sources familiar with the shrine blamed lack of coordination between the SJTA, and the Suar and Mahasuar Niyog for the issue.

It is often alleged that servitors selling Mahaprasad at Anand Bazar on Srimandir premises charge high prices for the delicacies. Taking the issue seriously, the SJTA had planned to introduce a slew of measures to regulate the prices of Mahaprasad. The motive was to save the devotees from fleecing.

“We could not cook Mahaprasad on experimental basis Sunday due to certain unavoidable causes. We will look into the issue in near future,” said the SJTA administrator (rituals).
