Journalist outfit to intensify strike in Binika

Binika: Members of the Binika Block Journalist Association, who have been staging a dharna for over 20 days against the administration’s apathy in filling vacant doctor and other posts at Binika community health centre (CHC) and three other primary health centres (PHCs) in this block, have threatened to intensify their strike.

“Our fight against the administration’s apathy will continue until our demands are met. If our demands are not heard and steps are not taken to fill up the vacant posts, the strike would be intensified,” said the secretary of Binika Journalist Association, Srujan Kumar Panda.

Despite bandhs by different political parties, support from civil society organisations and citizen groups, the district administration hasn’t yet reacted positively,” said the agitators. At least 43 positions of medical professionals are lying vacant at Binika and three other PHCs at Sankara, Bankighirdi and Mahadevpali for over four years.

“Though a memorandum was submitted to the District Collector, we haven’t received any assurance yet. We urge the Chief Minister and the state health department to consider our demands and fill up the vacancies. Or else, the protest would be intensified,” he added.
